Invertek P2 Optidrive supporting Electric Motors for Jaw Crusher in Mining & Quarry Applications
Jaw crushers are fundamental crushing machines in mining and aggregate processing. These crushers apply high-inertia, high-torque electrical loads to break down large rocks into smaller, graded material. An electric motor commonly powers jaw crushers; however, they require a variable speed drive that can provide high starting torque and short-duration overload capability to get started.
The Invertek Optidrive P2 are a well-suited variable speed drive solution for this type of heavy-duty application, enabling it to cater to power electric motors up to 250kW/400HP. We’ve highlighted some key points about the P2 series below:
High Breakaway Torque
- The P2 series can deliver up to 200% torque from zero speed in sensorless vector mode, which can be beneficial for turning over a jaw crusher without tripping the system's overcurrent detection.
Heavy-Duty Overload Capacity
- The P2 series can provide up to 150% overload for 60 seconds and 200% for short 4-second bursts, enabling the VSD to ride out unpredictable shock loads without interrupting production.
Scalable range
- The 250kW/400HP model has voltage ranges up to 480V/600V, sufficiently powering heavy primary jaw crusher motors.
Built for all environments:
- The P2 range features models for more rugged installations with IP66/NEMA 4X enclosures, preventing moisture and, more importantly, dust from penetrating the internals. Also useful in washdown environments in mine sites. The P2 range also features models for less rugged applications, with an IP20-rated model for built-in applications and an IP55 model for clean room control box installations.
Flexible Motor compatibility:
- The P2 Optidrive series can be used to control a range of motors, from standard AC induction motors, permanent magnet (PM) motors, and SynRM motors.
The P2 series is a great VSD solution for motors ranging up to 250kW/400HP on crusher applications, but depending on the operation, you may require something for larger motors.
