Who we are
ADM Instrument Engineering is a family owned Australian wholesaler and distributor of industrial sensors, transducers, encoders, variable speed drives, servo drives and process controllers. But supplying the right part is only half of what we do. Behind our product range is a technical team that helps customers work out exactly what their application needs and, when nothing off the shelf will do the job on its own, designs a solution around the products we supply.

Why choosing the right part takes more than a part number
Selecting a sensor or drive isn't always as simple as matching a part number. Operating environment, signal type, mounting constraints, accuracy requirements and how the information will be used all affect which product is the best fit.

Custom sensor solutions when a standard product won't do
Some applications don't suit a standard product on its own. When that happens, our technical team applies sensor application engineering to design a customised measurement solution around the problem, built from the sensors, transducers and process controllers we supply. That might mean custom sensor mounting brackets, choosing a sensing technology that will survive a harsh environment, or a retrofit level sensor paired with the right display and alarm controller.
Case study: how to continually monitor oil level inside a locomotive gearbox
A customer needed a reliable way to continuallt monitor the oil level inside a locomotive gearbox, an application with no ready-made solution. They sent us a gearbox casing, and our team:
- Identified a suitable level sensor for the environment it was to be used in
- Developed a method of mounting the level sensor inside the gearbox
- Designed and 3D printed custom sensor mounting brackets
- Matched the sensor to a process controller suitable for mounting in the locomotive's cabin, giving the driver a clear view of the oil level
We supplied the complete set of components, and the customer's team retrofitted them to their gearboxes.

How we work with you
We supply the components and the know-how. Our customers do the installation.
We don't sell PLCs, and we don't provide onsite service, installation or commissioning. That work belongs to the integrators, contractors and engineering firms we support, and many of them are our customers. It means you can bring us your project knowing we'll help you deliver it, not compete with you for it.
