The Harting 09454521904 har-port USB 3.0 A-A PFT Black (09 45 452 1904) is a panel-mount USB 3.0 feedthrough module from the HARTING har-port® series. It provides a Type A socket on both the external and internal faces of an enclosure wall, allowing standard USB 3.0 devices to connect to equipment inside a cabinet or housing without opening it. Designed for industrial service interface applications — field programming, data transfer, peripheral connection — it combines a familiar consumer USB format with industrial-grade mounting, EN 45545-2 railway certification, and DNV GL marine/offshore approval.

Modern industrial machinery, control cabinets, and automation systems often contain internal computers, PLCs, or data acquisition systems that require occasional USB access — for firmware updates, data extraction, or peripheral connection. Providing this access via a standard USB socket exposed directly on a printed circuit board or internal component is undesirable: it exposes sensitive electronics to contamination, requires opening the enclosure for access, and creates a maintenance burden.

HARTING's har-port® range solves this by providing a family of panel-mount feedthrough modules that bring standard digital interfaces — USB, Ethernet, HDMI, and others — to the outside face of an enclosure in a rugged, screw-fixed housing. The panel itself remains closed; access is provided via a purpose-designed interface module rated for the industrial environment.

USB 3.0 Type A-A Feedthrough Design

The "A-A" designation identifies this as a Type A socket to Type A socket feedthrough. The external face presents a standard USB Type A receptacle to the outside of the enclosure — accepting any USB Type A plug from a laptop, USB memory stick, barcode scanner, or similar device. The internal face presents a second USB Type A receptacle inside the cabinet, which connects to the internal host device (industrial PC, PLC, embedded controller) via a standard USB Type A to Type A cable.

This feedthrough architecture keeps signal routing entirely in standard USB hardware with no proprietary adapters, and allows the internal USB host port to be accessible from outside the cabinet without compromising the enclosure's structural integrity or creating unsealed openings.

USB 3.0 (SuperSpeed USB) supports data transfer rates up to 5 Gbit/s — sufficient for fast firmware flashing, large data file transfer, and real-time peripheral use. The interface is backward-compatible with USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 devices.

Panel Mounting

The module is designed for screw mounting into an enclosure wall panel cutout. The black polyamide (PA) housing is compact and provides a clean, professional finish on the panel exterior. At just 0.1 g net weight, it adds negligible mass to the assembly.

IP20 protection per IEC 60529 applies to the connector interface — guarding against finger contact with live parts. Environmental protection of the overall installation depends on the enclosure into which the har-port is mounted; when properly installed in an IP-rated enclosure, the internal electronics remain protected.

Mating cycles are rated at ≥1,500, consistent with USB specification requirements and suitable for regular service and maintenance access over the product's lifecycle.

Temperature and Environmental Range

Operating temperature range is -25°C to +70°C, covering the majority of industrial indoor and vehicle/mobile equipment applications. The combination of EN 45545-2 railway fire protection certification and DNV GL marine approval extends the product's suitability to rolling stock and marine/offshore installations — environments where material flammability and environmental robustness are subject to formal certification requirements.
