The Harting 09455451560 RJI RJ45 10G Cat6 8p IP20 Coupler is an industrial-grade inline coupler from the HARTING RJ Industrial® series, providing a female-to-female RJ45 junction point with Cat.6 Class EA performance up to 500 MHz and full support for 10 Gigabit Ethernet. Where the RJI 10G plug is the cable-end termination, the coupler is the junction point — joining two RJ45 plug assemblies together to extend a run, create a patch point, or provide a bulkhead feedthrough in an industrial panel. Zinc die-cast body with nickel plating and 360° shielding contact maintains shield continuity and mechanical integrity at the connection point. Coupler Function in Industrial Ethernet Installations

An RJ45 coupler presents two RJ45 jacks — one on each end — wired straight through, so that two plugs mated into it form a continuous electrical connection. In industrial installations this serves several purposes: extending a pre-terminated cable run without re-termination, creating a service break point where a cable segment can be disconnected and replaced in the field, providing a panel-mount feedthrough junction accessible from the front of a cabinet, or allowing patch-panel style organisation of Ethernet connections within a control enclosure.

In consumer and office environments, cheap plastic couplers are acceptable because EMI is low and replacement is easy. Zinc die-cast provides high mechanical rigidity, impact resistance, and an inherently conductive shell that integrates with the 360° shielding system. Nickel plating adds corrosion resistance and ensures consistent low-resistance electrical contact between the housing and the cable shield termination, even after repeated mating cycles or exposure to industrial atmospheres.

UL 94 V-0 flammability classification applies to the non-metallic components.

Cat.6 Class EA Performance: 10 Gigabit Ethernet Through the Junction

The coupler is rated to Cat.6 Class EA per the applicable channel standards, supporting transmission frequencies up to 500 MHz. This is the performance tier required for 10GBase-T (10 Gigabit Ethernet over twisted pair) and covers the full data rate progression from 10 Mbit/s through to 10 Gbit/s — including 2.5 Gbit/s and 5 Gbit/s multi-gig Ethernet standards used in modern industrial networks. Inserting a poorly rated coupler into a Cat.6A channel can degrade the channel's return loss and insertion loss performance below the Class EA threshold, dropping the achievable data rate. The RJI coupler is rated to maintain channel compliance.

Temperature and Environmental Ratings

Operating temperature range is -40°C to +85°C — the wider upper limit compared to plastic-bodied connectors reflects the thermal stability of the zinc die-cast construction. Mating cycles are rated at ≥750.

It mates with the RJI 10G RJ45 Plug Cat6 8p IDC Straight (09 45 151 1560) on both faces, allowing field-assembled RJI cable assemblies to be joined, extended, or patched without specialist tools or re-termination.
