Description

The Harting 09990000012 Removal Tool Han D® is the correct contact extraction tool for HARTING Han D® series connector inserts. It allows individual contacts — male pins or female sockets — to be safely removed from a Han D® insert without damaging either the contact or the insert housing. A necessary workshop and field tool for anyone installing, rewiring, or maintaining equipment using Han D® connectors. Manufactured in Germany; net weight 41.2 g; sold individually.

Why a Dedicated Removal Tool Is Required

Contacts in HARTING Han D® inserts are retained by a spring clip or locking lance inside the insert body. This retention mechanism holds the contact firmly in place during mating and in service, preventing contact migration or pull-out under cable tension. When a contact needs to be removed — for rewiring, contact replacement following damage, or circuit reconfiguration — the retention mechanism must be depressed simultaneously with contact withdrawal.

Attempting removal without the correct tool risks collapsing or breaking the retention lance inside the insert, permanently damaging the insert and requiring replacement of the entire insert rather than just the contact. Using an incorrect tool (one sized for a different Han series or a generic substitute) will not engage the Han D® retention geometry correctly, with the same result.

The HARTING Removal Tool Han D® is specifically sized and profiled for the Han D® contact and insert geometry. It depresses the retention clip cleanly while allowing the contact to slide free from the rear of the insert — non-destructively, repeatedly, and without specialist training.

Han D® Series Context

Han D® is a compact HARTING connector series designed for applications where the larger Han B® or Han E® footprint is unnecessary — lighter-duty control circuits, electronics, and instrumentation connections where signal counts and current levels are lower. Like the larger Han series, Han D® uses a modular insert system with individual contacts that are loaded into the insert from the rear after wiring. The removal tool is the counterpart to this assembly method: just as contacts are inserted individually, they are extracted individually.

Correct Tool Selection

HARTING produces removal tools specific to each contact family — the Han D® removal tool (09 99 000 0012) is not interchangeable with tools for Han E®, Han B®, Han A®, or other series contacts. When ordering, confirm the connector series in your installation before selecting a removal tool. Mixing tools across series is a common cause of insert damage during maintenance.
