Harting Data Connectors: IX Industrial Data Connectors
The HARTING IX Industrial connector is designed as a compact alternative to the traditional RJ45, offering up to 70% space savings on the PCB. Despite its reduced size, it supports Cat 6A performance with data rates up to 10 Gbit/s, including Power over Ethernet (PoE/PoE+) capability.
The IX Industrial series is available in three codings, each suited to specific industrial communication and signal applications.

Harting IX Type A:
Type A is optimised for industrial Ethernet networks, supporting protocols such as PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, and CC-Link IE. It utilises four shielded twisted pairs to minimise crosstalk and maintain reliable high-speed data transmission up to 10 Gb/s.
Harting IX Type B:
Can be more applicable for signal/bus applications, such as motor drives or encoders. Each pin is fully active and independent within this arrangement, making it a suitable replacement for the 9-pin D-Sub, M8, and M12 signal connectors in encoder applications.
Harting IX Type C:
Has a similar pin composition to Type A, with 4 pairs in a twisted-pair arrangement, and a completely different locking mechanism to prevent installers from connecting the wrong Type. The Type C models can host two networks simultaneously in their paired configurations, allowing process engineers to ‘air-gap’ two networks within a single machine.
The Harting IX series, although smaller than the RJ45 connector, steps up for rugged applications, featuring two robust metal latching hooks that lock into place when connected. These small, rugged connectors also feature 5 THR shield contacts to mechanically anchor the socket to the PCB, absorbing all the ‘yank-force’ from cables.
The IX industrial connectors are designed and built to comply with the IEC 61076-3-124 coding standard, so for customers searching for a robust connection solution for an existing design process, the IX connectors can slot in as a suitable option.
The IX industrial data connectors are a game-changer for industrial process facilities upgrading to enter the Industry 4.0 era, enabling rugged, high-speed connections that transmit production-floor feedback to cloud systems for real-time monitoring.
