FlowCERT - Open-Channel Flow & Level Monitoring
Measuring open-channel flow rates can be challenging for inline systems. Media and the environment can add to these challenges; abrasive media can damage in-line systems, and environmental factors can further affect intended monitoring.
In these instances, ADM recommends a range of Pulsar Measurement products to create a robust non-contact system that ensures reliable flow measurement while minimising the potential for damage from the environment or media within.

MicroFlow - Radar Velocity
The core technology is Pulsar Measurement's MicroFlow. This device measures the surface velocity of a liquid. The MicroFlow uses radar technology and built-in intelligence: point the sensor at the surface of the flowing media to determine flow velocity in metres/second.
In application, install the MicroFlow at a 45° angle to the flowing media to ensure the radar beams adequately capture the area. However, other environmental factors may pose challenges, such as vegetation in the open outdoor environment.

dbMach - Ultrasonic Level
For other outdoor applications, measuring flow and level for flood plan modelling requires integrating an additional level sensor: the dBMach. The dBMach is an ultrasonic level sensor designed to thrive in open-channel environments, providing the right format and precision for these types of applications. Knowing the precise depth (or level) of the flowing media is essential for determining flow rate in litres/sec, litres/min, or litres/hour.

FlowCERT - Processing & Alerts
The final piece of the system is integrating the sensors with the brains of the operation: the FlowCERT. The FlowCERT is a measurement controller where all the variables and dimensions are programmed to enable ongoing processing. This system integrates variables such as channel type, shape, size, media type and much more. The FlowCERT takes these settings and monitors live data feeds for flow, velocity, and level from both MicroFlow and dbMach, calculating flow rate in LPM. It can then output an analog 4-20mA signal or communicate via digital Modbus.
The FlowCERTs algorithm provides live calculations that account for a wider range of factors, including frictional sidewall forces and flow profiles.
Pulsar Measurement’s MicroFlow, dBMac, and FlowCERT provide a holistic approach to monitoring flow, velocity, and level for open-channel applications.
